  1. I'm jealous of your small town.
There will no doubt be parades around here somewhere, but we'd have to park in some bad neighborhood near downtown and walk in 112 degree heat to attend them.
    Not likely.

  2. we had
    fireworks
    in the park
    last night for
canada day, but no parade -- we don't really parade here in canada, except for the gay community, who are pridin' & paradin' all over the place, but i think parading really is an american thing -- and nobody does it better (except maybe for gay americans if they're at all like canadians) -- second place for parading, though, really would have to go to the north koreans for all their snappy marching

    !!!HAPPY 4th AMERICA!!!

  6. Wow. I enjoyed the pix. So much so, that I no longer totally agree with the immortal Lou Reed. Actually, now that I think of it, I LIKE small towns.

    *** *** ***

Small Town by Lou Reed and John Cale:

When you're growing up in a small town
When you're growing up in a small town
When you're growing up in a small town
You say, no one famous ever came from here

When you're growing up in a small town
And you're having a nervous breakdown
And you think that you'll never escape it
Yourself or the place that you live

    Where did Picasso come from?
There's no Michelangelo coming from Pittsburgh
If art is the tip of the iceberg
    I'm the part sinking below

When you're growing up in a small town
Bad skin, bad eyes, gay and fatty
    People look at you funny
When you're in a small town

    My father worked in construction
It's not something for which I am suited
Oh, what is something for which you are suited?
    Getting out of here!

I hate being odd in a small town
If they stare let them stare in New York City
As this pink eyed painting albino
How far can my fantasy go?

I'm no Dali coming from Pittsburgh
    No adorable lisping Capote
My hero, oh, do you think I could meet him?
I'd camp out at his front door

There is only one good thing about small town
There is only one good use for a small town
There is only one good thing about small town
You know that you want to get out

When you're growing up in a small town
You know you'll grow down in a small town
There is only one good use for a small town

You hate it ... and you know you have to leave

  7. iamnot: on wednesday night we will do the sketchy city version. at least its at night and we can ride our bikes. they shut down a big section of town..feels like anarchy. i like it. welcome home.

/t: thanks! i love canada day! we cant have fireworks its too dry from the drought. trees are brown. i love parades...and i found out later anybody could be in the blue ridge one. so i am going to trick out my big truck "apocalypse" and blast jimi hendrix's star spangled banner from the big speakers and make a crepe paper eagle or something and dress ol trouty up as uncle sam...or maybe ollie north.

vanille: i was thinking more of the costuming but i might change that commentary. grrrrl doan be mean now.

aunty: yeayuh. a spokeslab. good idea isnt it? oh how i miss having a lab. yes tomorrow in particular is all about the good things.

lamby: thank you! and i imagine this particular post is surely a
    "G" rating.

    vanille: *hear morpheus' voice*
    yeeeeeeeeesssssssssss.

PW: thank God you didnt cut and paste some john cougar mellancamp on me. i get tired of the city and go to the woods, i get tired of the woods and go to the city. but if i HAD to choose, it would be the sticks. hands down. and did you see how dog-centric it was? good sign.

  8. nice pics, but do they celebrate July 4 early where you live? here it's not until tomorrow! lol

grand marshall and spokeslab for second chance animal rescue: "ruff ruff... remember to spay or neuter your pets... ruff ruff... and while you're in town, enjoy a local delicacy - chinaman on a stick!"

  9. bogshond! what a treat! well the parade is technically for "old timers day". they have a thing on the fourth too but i have a tradition for the 4th in ATL

ruff indeed. if only trouts mother had been spayed i would be living a far more carefree life.

as for the chinaman delicacy you just might get away with it here

  10. happy 4th to you too!! I love the small town parade thing. We would always have a big Memorial Day (all of my kids have marched in it for scouts or little league etc)in the town I moved from. Here we have a HUGE firework display on the 4th... at least that is what I am told! lol I will be out of town tonight so I will miss it this year.

Love the photo of you by the fence! And OMG what is with the chicken? hehehe

  13. I know I'm a little late, but I hope you had a good Fourth of July week.

I'm thinking: If your alter ego were a damaltion instead of a rotweiler, he might have gotten a ride on the fire engine, no?

  17. oh, goodness.
The spammer drug companies found you.
    There goes the neighborhood.
("Martha? Fetch me my rifle, darlin' We got us a spammer out here!")

Did you ever see Second Hand Lions with Robert Duval and Micheal Caine?
Now, they knew how to treat spammers!

Thought, what with the temperature probably rising till November that what I'll do is put this address on my art blog links.
I've always liked your paintings (and that new stuff...the owl and such, that ain't nothing but COOL!)
and I don't want anyone to prejudge anything other than the artistic merit.

(but I love that I get to keep a K9 link at wheer some fireworks might be....)
