bwahahahaha. I was thinking something so close to your tag... "if chickie has chicks, then what's a few dogs?" You should see me carting them to work; think transporting your chicks from Chickory to the ATL. Stacked carriers.
I'm glad you have them and I wish them good health, only female parts and the ability to run FAST from all incoming objects from the sky! xoxox
dianne: I hope they are girls...one of them acts sort of roostery. I cant have one because I live in the city part time -but it would be better for my flock. love to you Golden. xo
lx: blue laced wynadottes and a black polish crested with a white fright wig top. no names yet. well see how the personalities shake out. Its funny to watch the established hens check em out!
boxer: oh, i know, mount crazytown, i know. I havent made a chicken hat yet. bwaaahahahahha On my blue ridge video? I had a feature on the town chickens and then a segment on the farm to table restaurant - i rearranged the video when I saw that squirrelly juxtaposition. ha!
foam: its the baby ducks that break my heart - those big ol bills and furry yellow bodies. feathers are like downy fur at this stage. so sweet. so eastery.
I hope they are all girls too but a rooster would protect them when they are in the forest. Wynadottes have really beautiful feather markings. How is that beautiful Easter, is she still nesting? Love to you. xoxoxo ♡
Chicks happen. Just in time for Easter. See that last one? The birds make sure there is plenty of that in my dogs dishes. My wife is always throwing food in the bushes for them. They're still cute.
Dianne: Easter never was a good layer. SHe is a pet. I only keep her alive because Boxer likes her. ;-) A rooster would protect the hens -but while they are at their city house - the neighbors might complain about a rooster crowing all day (and they will) and it could mean i cant have any hens. nobody really knows about them now.
Blazing: oh I love mallards! They are such sociable ducks. no roosters...I think i might have one - just watching his baby bad assery has me worried.
moi: bwaaahahha
foamy: that uncle could have been from my family. freaking mean streak as wide as an interstate highway.
/t: you got it. thats how it happened to me. lately Ive been thinking of chucking it all and getting a palm frond shack in the yucatan and fishing all day.
yobo: havent you made a skeleton softy chicken yet? Im sure that will get you another cover on "stuffed" LOL
nina: I do love them. One has a tendency for "pasty butt" so i have to wash his bottom and blow dry hime everyday. that is love. good to see you out and about!
curmy: grherhahahahaha! My grown hens have ruined areas from scratching so much...They need a chicken tractor...bad!
Ponita: welcome! They are more furry at this stage...i too love the new feathers poking out -soon they will hit that terrible awkward stage - very crazy haphazard feathering.
roses: thank you sweet girl!
Yazzey: do you remember my hen wren? she was a dutch chicken. These are american wynadottes...but small like a wren - indeed she is.
Hahahahaha! Love that last pic. Just puts us right back in our place, doesn't it? What's life without a little fertilizer anyway? Hope all is well with you Ms. Chickieboom. Do you need more bottle caps? I have a new collection in case you do.

My first glance at your post brought a big Awwww...which continued through the second picture and when I reached the 3rd it turned into an OOPS! Well, chicken poop is great fertilizer!

It feels as though i have the entire forest to myself and it speaks to me in snaps, crow calls and feathery evergreen songs.
Black sticks colonized with frilly botanica colored lichens line the landscape and my breath seems to hang in the air like a frozen sculpture. I stay out as long as the wind chill allows, just long enough to see a slate colored junco take his last seed and fly off over the cabin

A Good Idea
To live content with small means; to seek elegance rather than luxury, and refinement rather than fashion; to be worthy, not respectable, and wealthy, not, rich; to listen to stars and birds, babes and sages, with open heart; to study hard; to think quietly, act frankly, talk gently, await occasions, hurry never; in a word, to let the spiritual, unbidden and unconscious, grow up through the common--this is my symphony.

NO ROOSTERS!
NO ROOSTERS!
NO ROOSTERS!
Awww ..... the chicks are so beautiful and sweet ....
I heard a familiar squawking in my back yard this morning and saw my Mallard couple are back. Early.
This weather has them all messed up!
Suddenly, I hear Alice in Chains . . .
Actually I had a duckling as a kid in ms. It disappeared a few months later and my uncle told me he stuffed my pillow with the feathers.
grrherhaha ha
have sometimes thought to
chuck it all and get a chicken ranch

They are adorable - poop and all! I hope no roosters, too, and will join in the chant. xo! Pam
Stunning photography, exquisite subjects. Each captures your love of these Fowl. May they have long and happy lives.

They are too cute! I love their wing feathers poking through the chickie baby fluff. Good luck with the all girls bit! ;-)
They are so cute! I'll add my prayer to the others' - no roosters.
I love your baby chickens. My favorite is the little one on the bottom--she is a tiny Wren,no? Yazzybel

Goodness,
I now know it is "Spring" because you are back in your mountains with baby chicks.
Before, I thought it was Spring when the Forsythia started to bud.
I loved little Wren from afar and grieved whtn she died. YAZZY
That second little chick looks like a bad ass.
So....remind me....how many chicken car carriers can your vehicle hold? Along with two dogs?
